Most people these days are used to the toxic deodorants out there which will stop you from sweating and keep you really dry, right? I know, I used to be like that as well. It is a great feeling to be dry under your armpits and not have the sweat look on your shirts/tops. It can look weird at first and it might give the impression that you are “dirty”. On the other hand, more and more people have woken up to the fact that feeling dry might be causing more harm than good and the search for alternatives has invaded the market.
So why do we smell?
Sweat itself doesn’t actually smell. Sweat is made up of water, sodium and other substances that help cool the body down. What does produce that sour body odour is when sweat comes into contact with the bacteria that lives on our skin (which we all have). So we are all supposed to SWEAT and trying to stop this natural body function is only going to harm us in the long run. That’s right: sweating is totally natural. It’s our bodies’ way of expelling toxins and regulating temperature. Without sweat, just imagine how many toxins our bodies would have!!
Do you know what is worse than the stinking sweat smell? The mixed smell of tangy sweat with overpowering antiperspirant/deodorant fragrance. The best deodorants are the ones that keep you from smelling!! Not the ones that try to mask the odour with horrible fragrances.
I find it scary to have hormone disruptors, petroleum based ingredients, phthalates, and triclosan (classified as a pesticide) near my endocrine glands.
Your under arms contain the largest concentration of sweat glands compared to any other area of the body. This is primarily how your body rids itself of toxins.
When you coat the underarms with silicones, aluminum, and other synthetics, you are preventing your body from utilizing these natural processes – essentially blocking your body’s primary method of detoxification.
